What is the Occupational Medicine ST3 interview, and how do you practise for it?

Occupational Medicine ST3 national recruitment interview: one panel station of about 35 minutes, split into two subsections, Portfolio then Scenario. The panel explores your application form answers, your commitment to the specialty and the basic skills needed at entry, then sets a scenario-based task. How the time is split between the two subsections is not published. Here each subsection is practised as its own station of about 17 minutes, one examiner voice speaks for the panel, and the full mock runs both back to back. MedMock lets you practise it out loud against an AI interview panel, with examiner-style feedback on any station you finish.

Occupational Medicine ST3, 2025 recruitment round (Round 2). NHS England competition ratios

  • The Occupational Medicine recruitment pages apply to England and Scotland, with separate guidance for Northern Ireland and Wales.
  • In the previous recruitment round, applicants gave a self-assessment score and completed a prioritisation task; the top scoring applicants then uploaded evidence, which a senior OH physician reviewed to verify the points claimed.
  • The online interview lasts approximately 35 minutes as one station with 2 subsections, Portfolio and Scenario, usually with 2 panellists.
  • In the previous recruitment round, the occupational medicine final total score and ranking combined the verified evidence scores, prioritisation task scores and interview scores.
  • Applicants must score over the appointability threshold, currently 70% of the total weighted score, to enter a training programme.
  • Applicants who want to train in industry or the Armed Forces are required to benchmark by attending the National Recruitment Interviews.

Checked on 13 October 2026 against Occupational Medicine: overview of occupational medicine, Occupational Medicine: interviews and Occupational Medicine: benchmarking ranking and preferencing. Recruitment changes each year: confirm on the official pages before you apply.

Occupational Medicine ST3 interview practice, on demand

MedMock gives you an AI interviewer who challenges your answers, available 24/7. Pick a station, have a spoken conversation, and ask for examiner-style feedback when you finish, scored against what genuinely matters in the Occupational Medicine ST3.

How it works

1

Choose a station

Choose the kind of question or scenario you want to rehearse — ethics, motivation, a role-play, and more.

2

Have the conversation

Speak naturally, out loud. The AI interviewer listens and asks the demanding follow-ups, just as a real interviewer would.

3

Get instant feedback

The moment you finish, you get specific, examiner-style feedback and a score — what you did well, what cost you marks, and precisely what to fix before the next attempt.

Practise every scenario

MedMock covers the stations you will face in the Occupational Medicine ST3 interview. Rehearse each one until it feels routine.

1

Portfolio subsection

The first subsection: questions exploring the answers you gave in your application form, your commitment to occupational medicine and the basic skills needed at entry to the specialty.

2

Scenario subsection

The second subsection: a scenario-based task assessing how you apply basic occupational medicine skills. The published guidance does not list the scenario topics.
