What is the Immunology ST3 interview, and how do you practise for it?

Immunology ST3 national recruitment interview, run online by Physician Higher Specialty Training. In Round 1 2026 allergy and immunology applicants sit one joint interview: two 20-minute stations with four scored questions of about 10 minutes each. Station 1 is a brief written clinical scenario, then an ethics, professionalism and governance question given verbally. Station 2 is your prepared presentation on a recent allergy or clinical immunology research paper and its discussion, then suitability and commitment. Each question is scored 1 to 5 by two interviewers, and the interview makes up 80% of the total score, with the application 20%. MedMock lets you practise it out loud against an AI interview panel, with examiner-style feedback on any station you finish.

Immunology ST3, 2025 recruitment round (Round 2). NHS England competition ratios

  • Allergy and immunology hold a joint interview with recruitment managed centrally by the London Recruitment Office. An applicant to either specialty, or both, sits one single joint interview.
  • The immunology interview has two stations of 20 minutes each, with a separate pair of interviewers in each station, and four scored questions of 10 minutes each.
  • The four questions are a clinical scenario, an ethical, professionalism and governance question, a presentation, and a question on suitability and commitment.
  • The presentation is on an interesting research paper covering a recent development or research finding relevant to allergy and/or clinical immunology. No slides or screen sharing are allowed, and the discussion with interviewers lasts approximately seven minutes.
  • To be appointable, none of the eight interview scores can be 1/5, no more than two can be 2/5, and the raw interview score must be 24 or above.
  • Immunology is a Group 2 specialty, requiring completion of the first two years of internal medicine training stage 1 or equivalent. It also accepts applicants from a paediatric training pathway.
  • Shortlisting for immunology includes an assessment of commitment to specialty.

Immunology ST3 interview practice, on demand

MedMock gives you an AI interviewer who challenges your answers, available 24/7. Pick a station, have a spoken conversation, and ask for examiner-style feedback when you finish, scored against what genuinely matters in the Immunology ST3.

How it works

1

Choose a station

Choose the kind of question or scenario you want to rehearse — ethics, motivation, a role-play, and more.

2

Have the conversation

Speak naturally, out loud. The AI interviewer listens and asks the demanding follow-ups, just as a real interviewer would.

3

Get instant feedback

The moment you finish, you get specific, examiner-style feedback and a score — what you did well, what cost you marks, and precisely what to fix before the next attempt.

Practise every scenario

MedMock covers the stations you will face in the Immunology ST3 interview. Rehearse each one until it feels routine.

1

Clinical Scenario & Ethical Question

Question 1 (about 10 minutes): a brief written clinical scenario in immunology to review, then the steps you would take, treatments, further information and how you would communicate with the patient, family and colleagues. Question 2 (about 10 minutes): an ethics, professionalism and governance situation given verbally, then questions on GMC Good Medical Practice.

2

Presentation & Suitability

Question 3 (about 10 minutes): a presentation of no more than three minutes, prepared in advance with no slides (prompt cards allowed), on a recent allergy or clinical immunology research paper, then discussion of it. Question 4 (about 10 minutes): your suitability for and commitment to training in immunology, expanding on your application form.

Presentation & Suitability

“What is your reflective practice when you have made a clinical decision you later disagreed with?”

Example scenarios

Clinical Scenario & Ethical Question

“A 25-year-old with severe CVID is refusing IgG replacement — walk us through your steps, treatments, further information you would gather, and how you would communicate; then a separate ethics question follows.”

Presentation & Suitability

“Present a recent research paper that you find clinically important in allergy or clinical immunology — three minutes, no slides; we will then discuss your paper, then your suitability for the specialty.”
