What is the Allergy ST3 interview, and how do you practise for it?
Physician Higher Specialty Training Recruitment: Allergy and Immunology ST3 share one joint national interview, run by the London Recruitment Office. There are two 20-minute stations, each with two scored questions. Station 1 is a short written clinical scenario, then an ethics, professionalism and governance hypothetical given verbally; Station 2 is a 3-minute prepared presentation on a research paper relevant to allergy and/or clinical immunology, with discussion, then suitability and commitment. Here, one examiner asks the questions. MedMock lets you practise it out loud against an AI interview panel, with examiner-style feedback on any station you finish.

About Allergy (ST3) recruitment
Allergy ST3, 2025 recruitment round (Round 2). NHS England competition ratios
- Allergy and immunology hold one joint interview, and recruitment to both is managed centrally by the London Recruitment Office. Applicants to either specialty, or both, sit the same single interview.
- The interview has two stations, each with its own pair of interviewers. It has four questions of 10 minutes each, and each station lasts 20 minutes.
- One interview question is a presentation of no more than three minutes on a research paper covering a recent development or finding relevant to allergy and/or clinical immunology. Visual aids such as PowerPoint are not allowed.
- The interview score is weighted: clinical scenario 2.5, professionalism and governance 1.2, presentation 1.8, and suitability and commitment 2.5, giving maximum scores of 25, 12, 18 and 25.
- Allergy is a Group 2 specialty. It requires completion of the first two years of the internal medicine training (IMT) stage 1 programme or equivalent, and it also accepts applicants from a paediatric training pathway.
- Allergy applicants are appointable only if none of their eight interview scores is 1/5, no more than two are 2/5, and their raw interview score is 24 or above.

Get instant feedback
The moment you finish, you get specific, examiner-style feedback and a score — what you did well, what cost you marks, and precisely what to fix before the next attempt.
Practise every scenario
MedMock covers the stations you will face in the Allergy ST3 interview. Rehearse each one until it feels routine.
Station 1
A short written clinical scenario to review before the question, then questions on the steps you would take, possible treatments, further information you would gather and how you would communicate; then an ethics, professionalism and governance hypothetical given verbally, with questions on GMC Good Medical Practice. 20 minutes.
Station 2
A 3-minute prepared presentation, without slides, on 'An interesting research paper covering a recent development/research finding relevant to allergy and/or clinical immunology', stopped at 3 minutes, with about 7 minutes of discussion; then about 10 minutes on your suitability for and commitment to the specialty.
Sample Allergy (ST3) interview questions

“Have you observed a food or drug challenge, and what struck you about the safety and judgement involved in running one?”
Example scenarios

“Present a recent allergy or clinical immunology paper (e.g. Palforzia / OIT data), defend your paper choice under follow-up questions, and explain your evidence of commitment to the specialty.”
